Congratulations to the 2026 graduates of The Children’s Education Center (Ed Center)! Graduation marks an important milestone as students take their next steps into adulthood after years of individualized instruction and preparation for greater independence. It also celebrates the growth made possible through the partnership of families and staff.
“Many of our students have had many teachers, TAs and therapists throughout the years who have helped shape their early educational years,” Denise Gaughan, Children’s Education Center Director, said. “These events gave them all an opportunity to celebrate that history and reconnect.”
Leading up to commencement, graduates were celebrated during the school’s inaugural Senior Walk & Award Breakfast on June 15. Wearing caps and gowns, students walked across campus, cheered on by parents, fellow students, and staff with streamers, noisemakers, bubbles, and large banners of “Congrats Seniors!,” “We Love our Seniors,” and “Congrats Class of 2026.”
Seniors waved proudly, making heart signs with their hands and smiling from ear to ear – a joyful prelude to graduation day on June 23.
In a ballroom full of families, friends and community members, graduates were celebrated during the commencement ceremony with inspiring speeches from school leaders, teachers, and graduating student Manuel Lopez.
“Graduation marks the end of one important chapter in our students’ lives, and the beginning of a new one in a world that is ever changing and filled with opportunities,” said Stanfort J. Perry, CEO.
“We are indeed proud of you. We believe in you, and we look forward to all that lies ahead,” Stanfort added.
Ed Center teachers and faculty took turns at the podium reflecting on the remarkable growth they’ve seen over the years.
“As you begin this next chapter, remember how much you are loved, how much you are capable of achieving, and how proud we are of you,” said Nancy Dattero, Special Education Teacher, who spoke about Matthew Armstrong, Noah Pickus, and Zachary Pichardo . “We will miss you and wish you all the best in your future.”
Alex Amiruddin, Special Education Teacher, shared Hope Scigliano’s journey at school, highlighting her determination, courage, and growth. These qualities have made her a role model for other students.
“In challenging moments, she often leads by example, demonstrating patience, kindness, and positive choices,” Alex said.
Teacher Christopher Clark described AJ Capra’s enthusiasm for learning and volunteering, from his time in the PAES Lab and Brookville Beans to Stop & Shop, Holiday Farms, and the school store—all while keeping up with his classes.
Erica Eisenberg, Special Education Teacher, was amazed to see her students, William Haug and Manuel Lopez, become more outgoing and try new things.
One of those new opportunities for Manuel was becoming a commencement speaker and sharing his perspective on his time at BCCS.
“This school has been more than a place for learning. It has been a place of growth, encouragement, and self-discovery,” Manuel said. “It has helped me become the person who I am today and will give me the confidence to become the person I will be tomorrow.”
Manuel said BCCS will always have a special place in his heart. He will carry the relationships, lessons, and memories from his time here with him.
“To my fellow graduates, congratulations,” Manuel said. “Today, we celebrate how far we have come and look forward to all that is still ahead of us.”
Manuel’s speech earned a standing ovation, and many in the audience wiped away happy tears. His parents were especially proud of him.
“It was a proud moment,” said Dorothy Lopez, Manuel’s mom. “This place means a lot to him. This is home. He’s been here for 13 years, and he has hit all his milestones here. He didn’t speak, and he now speaks, he reads, he writes, he loves his friends, he tries new things.”
While graduation is bittersweet for students, families, and staff, we are grateful for the years of learning, growth, and friendship we shared with the Class of 2026 and for all they will accomplish in the future.
