Get to know the new President and Vice President of the Barbara C. Wilson Preschool Parents Association
As the Summer Session came to a close, Malorie Edme, President of the Barbara C. Wilson (BCW) Preschool Parents Association (PA), and Vice President Erin Sachs, met with the school’s administrative team to share ideas for a new school year filled with opportunities for student and families to connect, learn, and have fun together.
“I’m very passionate about children and them receiving all the opportunities they can have,” Malorie said, whose child, Randy, has been attending the school for two years. “We found so much joy in coming up with ideas and little activities for the kids.”
Those ideas range from decorating the school for the first day on September 8th to organizing a trunk-or-treat to a bowling meeting, petting zoo, cooking class, moms’ meetup, and trip to Adventureland.
“I like to be involved all the time with anything to do with my kids,” said Erin, whose child, Evan, is going into his second year. “These monthly meetups are nice, because normally I would never take my child to a kitchen to cook, but I know there are kids like him that are going, and nobody is going to judge you, and that’s the whole thing; it’s a judgment-free zone.”
Creating that welcoming environment is an important part of the BCW PA. The group supports every parent and family by offering opportunities to connect, share information, listen, and encourage one another as their children reach new milestones.
“When I came to this school, I didn’t know what to expect,” Malorie said. “Just being able to go to a PA meeting and hear about all the amazing things. I was so excited. That made me feel like my kid would be involved in so many fun and amazing activities.”
For Malorie, one of the most meaningful parts of the PA is the community parents build with one another.
“Being able to go to monthly meetups with people who get it, who understand how we feel, and who are probably in a similar situation to us, has been really nice. It’s a sense of community, belonging,” said Malorie.
Throughout the year, parent volunteers organize activities during the school day, celebrating holidays like Halloween and events such as the Winter Olympics.
They also hold fundraisers to support these activities, giving students, families, and staff more chances for fun and enrichment. Monthly meetups give children opportunities to connect with classmates and students from other classes, while parents can make friends and arrange playdates outside of school.
“We just want to build more relationships,” Erin said. “It’s nice as parents, because we’ve made friends along the way, which is great.”
The PA also works closely with school staff to act that connect with what students are leaning in the classroom.
“They’re so involved with what’s going in the school,” said Diane Condy, the Director of BCW. “They’re great in helping reinforce our curriculum through their events and activities. They work closely with our curriculum coordinators. It’s very important. They are a great support also for incoming parents; they’ve been here, they know about the program, they see the progress children have made, and they really make the parents feel very comfortable.”

Thank you to Malorie, Erin, and all PA members for their ongoing support and dedication to the BCW school community.
