Brookville Center For Children's Services

Congratulations to the Employees of the Quarter

On Tuesday, September 29, Brookville Center for Children’s Services (BCCS) celebrated four outstanding employees at the Employee of the Quarter Awards luncheon at the Brookville mansion alongside colleagues from across our family of organizations.

Congratulations to Esther Collis, a teacher at Round Hill Road Preschool; Nicholas Barbanera, a teacher at the Children’s Education Center; Victoria Ruocco, a school psychologist at the Children’s Education Center; and Eminellee Cooper, a Direct Support Professional (DSP) at the Children’s Residential Program (CRP).

Round Hill Road Preschool

Esther Collis received her Employee of the Quarter awardThough new to Round Hill Road, Esther Collis has already established herself as a valued teacher and supportive colleague.

Drawing on her experience in Early Intervention (EI), Esther brings expertise and enthusiasm to her classroom. She fosters a collaborative environment where teaching assistants feel empowered and everyone works together to support each child’s strengths and needs.

“You’re truly a very special member of the Round Hill Road family, and we thank you for everything you do,” said Paula DeVita, Director of Round Hill Road Preschool.

Nicholas Barbanera received his Employee of the Quarter awardTeacher Nicholas Barbanera, also known as Mr. Nick, has made a strong impact in his short time at BCCS. His collaborative approach has created strong relationships with colleagues, so much so that teaching assistants volunteered their time during vacation to help prepare their classroom for the new school year.

Nicholas was also recognized for this thoughtful approach when helping a new student settle in. Working closely with Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), he recognized the importance of giving the student time and space to become comfortable with a new classroom, teachers, and fellow students.

“That’s not just being a good teacher, that’s being a good human being,” said Denise Gaughan, Director of the Children’s Education Center. “I’m excited to see you continuing to grow and I’m excited that our children get to have Mr. Nick in their lives.”

Victoria Ruocco, School Psychologist, was recognized for her leadership, hard work, and creativity, as well as the support she provides to students, families, and colleagues.Victoria Ruocco receives her Employee of the Quarter Award

Victoria joined the Children’s Education Center during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even then, her welcoming personality and positive spirit shone through.

“She approaches everyday with such exuberance,” Denise said. “She supports the staff. She supports the students, and what she is gifted at is understanding how to approach each person, whether it be the student, the families, or staff.”

Children’s Residential Program

Eminellee Cooper receives her Employee of the Quarter awardEminellee Cooper is an exceptional Direct Support Professional whose dedication and excellence inspire those she works with at the Children’s Residential Program.

“Her personality, her drive, her wanting to be there for the kids always shines whenever she’s on shift and I’m thankful to her,” said Cassie Bradshaw, Director of the CRP.

Eminellee’s commitment was especially evident during the nor’easter in late September, when the young men living at the CRP in Lido Beach and staff evacuated. Eminellee’s strength, sense of humor, and willingness to help made the process easier for everyone involved.

“That kind of foresight is rare,” said DeAndre Barnes, Assistant Manager. “When we see that level of heart and hustle, it does more than just make our jobs easier, it gives us a soulful sense of pride. It makes us thrilled, not just as management work, but as human beings sharing a workspace with an incredible colleague.”

Congratulations to all Employees of Quarter Two! Thank you for guiding, inspiring, and teaching students and the young people we support!
