Summer Fridays brought the best of the season to the Ed Center, giving students opportunities to move, create, explore, and connect during the Summer Events Series on campus in Brookville.
One special Summer Friday was the July 10 sports-themed Tailgate Day where students and teachers dressed in jerseys of their favorite teams. They enjoyed inflatable games, made memories at the photo booth, and decorated baseball cookies.
Also, on July 10 was Field Day, which brought students plenty of ways to stay cool with water games and activities. Laughter echoed through the campus as students dodged super soaker sprays and participated in relay races.
“There are no winners and losers here,” Nick Tremaroli, Adaptive Physical Education Teacher, said. Nick organizes the games every year and incorporated two new events.
“The students really liked shooting the cup along the string. That one seems to be a fan favorite.”
Teachers supported students as they played, helping aim the super soaker at the cup targets, and blasting them down the finish line.
Sensory-friendly activities included automatic bubble blowers and large bubble wands. Students also had fun running through the sprinklers and giggled as Nick and his fellow teachers splashed them with water spray.
Woodstock Day on July 24 offered a change of pace with relaxing activities including yoga and drum circles. Students made tie dye t-shirts, decorated a guitar, and took part in other arts and crafts activities. The final BCCS Summer Event on August 5 brought all the classes together for an indoor Block Party with luau games, food, crafts, and plenty of surprises.
“The event is really fun,” said Judley Toussaint, a Transition Program student. “I love the snacks.”
Students had plenty to explore, from making bubble paintings and visiting the lemonade stand, to decorating a palm tree and joining a scavenger hunt.
“I think they do a great job here and put a lot of work into it,” said Jaclyn Pilato, Physical Therapist. “The kids get really into it and get all dressed up, which shows a lot of school spirit.”
