Sweet Treats and Meet and Greets: Round Hill Road School Host Parents at Meet the Teacher Night

Three Round Hill Road Scool teachers behind a table. With teachers to meet, classrooms to explore, and plenty of sweet treats to share, Round Hill Road School welcomed families for its first Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday, September 17.

This fall, Round Hill Road welcomed nearly 100 new students, bringing dozens of families into the school community. Meet the Teacher Night gave parents an opportunity to connect with the people and resources supporting their children and ask questions as the year gets underway.

“Tonight is a night for a general overview of the classrooms, meeting the teachers and learning about classroom structures and routines,” said Paula DeVita, Director, who led the evening.

“We just really want to give information to the parents regarding the school, the learning environment, and then the teachers are going to explain what goes on in the classroom,” Lori Aquilino, Assistant Director, added.

During teacher breakout sessions, parents got to know their children’s teachers and learned about the classroom routines supporting their everyday learning. Families could sign up for parent-teacher conferences coming up in November to discuss their child’s progress and learning goals.

Beyond the classroom, the evening offered parents the opportunities to get involved in the Round Hill Road community.

The bake sale, organized by the School Spirit Team, added something sweet to the evening while introducing the work of the School Spirit Team and  Parents’ Association (PA). Together, parents help organize fundraisers and events that bring the community together throughout the year.

Proceeds from the bake sale, along with other fundraising events, help support activities and experiences for students and staff, from seasonal celebrations to special events.

“We do a lot of fundraising. We fundraise for events for the children,” Paula said. “Some of the things we’ve done in the past are a fall festival, over the summer we do a bubble show. So all of the fundraising that we do goes toward those activities.”

There are many opportunities for parents to participate, even giving an hour or two of time helps support book fairs, t-shirt sales, paint nights, and raffles that benefit students.

Round Hill Road parents interested in joining the PA can reach out through ClassDojo or contact Margarite Tagliaferro directly at mtagliaferro@brookvillecenter.org.
