Since there was no school on October 12, the young people at the Children’s Residential Center (CRP) in Lido Beach and Wantagh made the most of their day off by joining neighbors for the first-ever Town of Hempstead Fall Festival.
Held at the Malibu Shore Club, just steps from the CRP’s Lido Beach location, the festival brought the community together for a day of seasonal activities. Some of the young men visited during the weekend too.
From carnival rides and a corn maze to music and a petting zoo, there was something to meet every interest.
Highlights included a magic show, motorcycle stunts, and visiting a pumpkin patch for photos.
“When I went to the Town of Hempstead website and saw all the activities they had, I thought ‘oh, there’s something for everybody,’” said Recreation Coordination Brandon Lyons. “On Saturday they really enjoyed the stunt show that was there.”
For Brandon, creating opportunities that reflect the young people’s different interests is an important part of planning activities. He enjoys asking the young people what activities they enjoy most.
“With the Malibu Shore Club as our neighbor, we were thrilled to come out on our day off from school and explore the festival with our Town of Hempstead community,” said Cassie Bradshaw, Director of the Children’s Residential Program. “We always appreciate the opportunity for the young people we support to explore their interests, discover new things about the world around them, and meet with people in their community. We look forward to next year’s Fall Festival!”
